비만(obesity)은 volume overload와 관련이 있고 결과적으로 높은 end-diastolic volume과 증가된 filling pressure를 나타냅니다. 이것은 고혈압(hypertension)과 결부되어 좌심실 비대(left ventricular hypertrophy)를 초래할 수 있습니다. 좌심실 비대(LVH)는 이것이 심부전(heart failure), 심실 부정맥(ventricular arrhythmia), 심근 경색 이후 사망(death following MI), sudden cardiac death 발생률을 증가시키기 때문에 임상적으로 중요합니다.
