Asymptomatic pyuria, whom to treat
1. Pregnancy
Screening for and treatment of asymptomatic bacteriuria is warranted for pregnant women.
2. Urologic intervention
Screening for and treatment of asymptomatic bacteriuria is warranted for patients undergoing transurethral resection of the prostate and other urologic procedures in which mucosal bleeding is anticipated.
3. Renal transplant recipients
Some experts screen for and treat asymptomatic bacteriuria in the first three months following transplantation.
