Auer rods, which are pathognomonic of myeloblasts, vary in frequency depending upon the AML subtype. They can be identified as pink/red rod-like granular structures in the cytoplasm. Sometimes the Auer rods are multiple, and sometimes they form a dense clump and are referred to as "Auer bodies." REF. UpToDate 2018.01.17
