직업성 폐질환은 특이한 직업력과 관련된 물질을 알고 있어야 합니다. 자동차 브레이크 생산공장, 조선소, 건물철거작업은 석면 노출과 관련이 있습니다.대부분의 경우 asbestosis 진단은 노출 병력과 HRCT 소견에 근거합니다. 진단을 위한 조직검사는 거의 하지 않습니다. Asbestosis 진단을 지지하는 3가지 핵심 소견은 다음과 같습니다. ㉮ 석면 노출과 증상 발현까지의 적절한 잠복 기간, 석면 노출력, 노출 markers (pleural plaques [virtually pathognomonic of previous exposure] 또는 BAL과 폐조직에서 충분한 양의 asbestos fibers/bodies의 회수)의 존재 ㉯ Interstitial fibrosis의 확실한 증거 (다음 나열한 것 중에서 한 개 이상 존재 : end-inspiratory crackles on chest examination; reduced lung volumes and/or DLCO; presence of typical chest radiograph or HRCT findings of interstitial lung disease; histologic evidence of interstitial fibrosis ㉰ Diffuse parenchymal lung disease의 다른 원인이 존재하지 않음
