* Patients at high risk of bleeding are considered as having a contraindication to anticoagulation; patients at low risk of bleeding are considered as having no contraindications to anticoagulation. ¶ For most patients with hemodynamically stable PE, we recommend against thrombolytic therapy. However, in rare circumstances, thrombolysis can be considered on a case-by-case basis. Please refer to the UpToDate topic text for details.
